Most COBRA members have now moved into coaching as their full-time rowing profession (I managed to spot four members on the bank this weekend!), but we still had two fine athletes flying the flag on the water.
First up, a huge congratulations to John Harte and QUBBC on claiming the Men’s Club VIII+ Championship of Ireland. This ends an 11-year drought for Queen's University Belfast in this event and is a remarkable achievement that reflects the progress of the programme at Queen’s. John also went on to claim a bronze medal in the Men’s Club IV+ and finished an impressive fourth in the Men’s Senior VIII+.
Stevie Edgar also performed well, finishing a credible fifth overall in the Men’s Senior 4x-. Unfortunately, he didn’t progress beyond the heats in either the Intermediate 2x or the Lightweight 1x, but competing across three championship events is an achievement in itself.
Inniscarra provided a stern test for everyone, with blisteringly hot conditions across all three days of the Championships.
Well done, men!
